LOVEPROJECT is: , a volunteer program matching and inspiring at Risk youth with Art mentors:
For Health and Emotional Wellness, as well as create self-esteem. Learn new skills and practices, to support in continued education and partner with other supports in the community to achieve their chosen goals. For 15 months Love Project has been held Monday mornings, has had 4 ga¬las, produced chap books, print media, calendar, has an online Art Site and a Facebook page, which our youth have been in¬volved in. We have had Painters come and paint with us and wood carvers bring materials and design with us. We have continued to use the stone from Love Project 3. We have had youth make photo-documents of their experience. We have had musicians available to teach and Jam with us and We have been blessed with youth singing.
Our youth experience a whole inclusive experi¬ence—from engaging in mediums, to production, to business, to event production.
Throughout this Love Project Session, I was able at the same time complete a 18 week program in expressive Art Therapy for professionals, which helped me do my own Art practice and study work, which then I could bring back to our youth every week on going, new ideas, new and fresh enthusi¬asm. Full of Love and inspiration to give and also to be available to just be there and listen. For me Expressive Art class , gave me my basic counsel¬ling skills, however, It gave me much more—the ability to validate that my own contribution to our community was to give back to our youth what I have learned, and really that Art making is truly an incredible gift, to self-healing, learning, being.
With long last¬ing effect well in the future for our youth, whether they engage for one day, or 4 months, they will never forget the feeling, of love, and respect, and fun they, feel, and a few new disciplines they can take along the way. One of my most favourite experience with our youth has been when after working for a long time with these youth, a young woman changed her mind about Love Project and smiled for the first time. Also I am also happy to say, that we have past youth shelter residence coming back to this
